Assetto Corsa – Mclaren MP4-12C GT3 Coming Up

A new update for Kunos Simulazioni’s Assetto Corsa Early Access Beta is due tomorrow and the studio has revealed the first content addition for the new update: The Mclaren MP4-12C GT3 car.

Powered by a 3.8 liter V8 bi-turbo engine, the MP4-12C is build to the FIA GT3 regulations based on the MP4-12C road car. The car made its competition debut in the British GT Championship in 2011 and went on to compete in various events, including the Spa 24 Hours race.

The GT3 version of the MP4-12C will join the street car that is already available in the Early Access Beta of Assetto Corsa.

It’s probably wishful thinking to expect MP this week, but another AI update would be nice.

  • Anonymous

Get an mp update poor in quality like the first AI test have no sense. Better wait a stable release and then report them all the possible issue.

  • Alexandre Martini

can’t wait to see how this compares to what we have in iracing.

  • Pure Citrus

I hope we see some more road cars, some more non-supercar road cars, before too long. I’m having much more fun banging around in the E30 than in any of the billion dollar wankmachines.

  • Sergey Yashin

I’m waiting for performance optimization… right now the game is unplayable with large grid of cars and descent graphics… Asking MP right now would be too much…

  • Shaddix

MP is planned in march :)

  • Shaddix

MP is planned in march, they mentioned in a video (only italian^^)

  • Manuel Riger

That is not panned its just 1.0 in march so finaly mp comes. But it would be much better they had worked for the mp first and release the ai in 1.0 with a finish ai. The AI atm is useless and gave them a lot of problems.

  • blastx

    looks great!

  • name user

too bad the E30 M3 is climbing past $30K, I can barely suspend my disbelief that I’m driving something attainable

just imagine driving a horrible atrocity like a foxbody mustang or third gen camaro on this tire model, it would be incredible

also I hope Kunos realizes how much attention AC would get if it had an S chassis Nissan, especially one missing a hood, bumper, and rolling on some clown-ass, neon colored Rotas

not being sarcastic, this would all be amazing

  • fkkamil

Not sure if it is what we should do but sure, curious how it compares to iR.

  • Bill

Check your hardware. I’m running triples and this flies.

  • bsurd

MP will be less heavy on the hardware compared to AI (CPU-wise)

  • Bill

I think we had too test that large scale for them. Better to have those problems now rather than at release time if you want my opinion.

  • GamerMuscle

    I really really need multi-player ;)

I’m hoping they get multi-player as perfect as can be before launch , but at the same time for me , Its the combination of real world locations realistic art , good physics and competition that make racing simulators so compelling as a game play experience.

This car will be nice to try though , I think kunos have done a good job in having a reasonable car selection , just need an F1 car and a skip barber and a go cart ;)

  • GamerMuscle

Why not use a simulator to drive cars that you cannot and will not ever drive in real life ?

I agree though having at least one total banger could be fun , really though the old BMW or abarth 500 with a bad set-up can achieve that goal.

  • Pure Citrus

Whoever makes a 5.0 mod for AC has made it the best game of all time

  • Paul Todd

Still in love with AC and with each update it gets better and better.

  • Deatroy

Nobody knows if V1.0 comes in March or later.
There is an interview online on yt with Marco and he confirms that first version of MP will be online in march.
I can link it if you understand italian language ?! :D

  • Roger Wallentin

Looking forward to the Friday update! The race cars in AC has gotten really dynamic and even more enjoyable after the tire model update with v0.5. They also feature the best engine sounds yet.

Most of all though I’m looking forward to the Ferrari 312T (’76 F1 car), hope they manage to implement a proper sound for it as well! Hoping for that to be in a release soon!

  • Hugo Stiglitz

Cool. Hopefully it doesn’t feel like the ICE racing version

  • Hugo Stiglitz

What? The engine sounds are terrible in AC lol

I don’t even care, I play sims for the physics, but complimenting the engine sounds is kind of weird. Easily the worst engine sounds in sim racing.

It’s still my favorite sim though, don’t get me wrong.

  • Hugo Stiglitz

    Agreed.

My rig can run it fine, but that doesn’t mean the complete lack of optimization is ok. This is really one of the most poorly optimized games I’ve ever seen.

  • joe pineapples

And compare it with what?….you haven’t said.

  • Bill

I’d compare it with similar specced machines first then I’d see what sort of spec people are reporting the game works with. ‘s all I’m saying. Btw i5 @4.5 16gb 1333 ram gtx 670 oc.

  • fkkamil

Not the worst but also not the best:)

  • Nick1

    Why does everyone want multiplayer?

  • Anonymous

Because its the base of all fun?!

  • Robert Gödicke

Because it’s a lot more fun than hotlapping for most people.
Plus, racing the AI isn’t fun as well for a lot out there. It isn’t for me because of their extremely unrealistic behaviour. The actual racing is way too “static”, plus they are way too slow.

  • Benjamin Dolard

Seriously ? My PC is worth like 500€, so not a war machine, and AC works just fine…

  • Benjamin Dolard

1.0 is supposed to be released in september, if I remember correctly. And yes, MP is (supposedly) going out by the end of march.

  • Robert Gödicke

Agreed. My rig did cost me around 1000€, but that was 5 frickin’ years ago! :D

I upgraded to a GTX770 last year for around 300€ and can run anything at full settings, including AC with 12 cars on track (didn’t test more, but shouldn’t be a problem since the framerate is still very high with 12 cars).

300€ after 5 years is a low investment in my opinion when looking at the bling you can get on screen for that.

  • Robert Gödicke

The one on the picture is the ’75 car though. Notice the number on the car. Lauda became world champion in ’75, thus sporting the number 1 on his car in ’76. Plus the updated ’76 car didn’t have the huge air intake above the driver.

Beside that, I’d really like to take it for a spin. 70s and 80s F1 cars were the most beautiful ones in my opinion.

  • Chris Wright

I have to admit the excitement of these updates has worn off a bit, as we seem to be headed for an increasingly dense soup of incomplete elements. That’s totally inevitable and unavoidable, of course, but some of the AI racing, in particular, is very, very flawed to the point that I’m not interested beyond trying each update for an hour or so.

200% behind KS in all this, but that simple earlier joy of hotlapping a few promisingly modeled cars on a few nicely rendered tracks has kind of faded a bit, replaced by a very mixed bag of features, all needing refinement.

It will get better, no awesome, I know. I’m just not sure I want to spend a lot of time on it in the current state.

    Others will see it differently.

  • http://www.mak-corp.com.au/ MAKCorp

I have to say I have been enjoying the Zonda R mostly myself. The AI I will not even comment on as it is only a start so its logical that it will have flaws, I’d rather wait before I comment on that. I’m mostly anxious about the modding ability to open up. Don’t care about new content or new tracks or new cars, I just want the modding to open up so we can start putting cars in it already and see how it goes. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too much longer.

  • name user

one on one, joux plane, touge lead/follow rules

best sim racing potential since Enthusia on PS2

  • F1Racer

    Why would it ?

  • Markus Ott

Because competing is the heart of racing?

  • Sergey Yashin

Well, go ahead and test full grid with 24 cars max settings with motion blur full and see how much FPS you getting.
    I have a R9 280X which comes close to the GTX770…

  • Anonymous

I want you to start putting cars in too ;)

Roll on the classic Touring Cars! Especially would like to see the Group 3A/Early V8SC Falcon.

  • Anonymous

    Oh please “ICE Racing”. Really?

Ok so I haven’t played iRacing, but I’ve heard from plenty of reliable people that this is complete BS (at least in current iRacing anyway).

  • Anonymous

    Obviusly you havent play RF2!?

  • Roger Wallentin

Ok sorry, I’m sure you are correct that its the ’75 car. F1 history is not my prime subject, but I do love to drive the classic cars over the modern open wheelers!

They sound so much better and offer a much more dynamic driving experience

  • Mark

I really hope they’ve fixed the problems with the Oculus Rift support in this build.

  • Mark

Correct. The iRacing tyre model these days is far less ‘icy’ than it used to be.

  • joe pineapples

Thanks. That’s the same spec system as mine (albeit 8gb ram) so guessing they must have improved it a fair bit since the tech demo, which was the last time I had a look at it. At that point I could feel my system performance was near on the limit (anything below 60fps is a waste of time imo), so with more cars I feared the worst.

  • kahel grahf

    Why does everyone want boobies…
But seriously it’s like asking on a fetishist forum why everyone want get a foot-job…yeahhhhh…that was the serious part…

  • kahel grahf

Last time i checked, oculus rift wasn’t even close to be ‘officially’ out…So i won’t blame them to much, if it’s not in their priorities…especially that relatively close to the 1.0 release version…but sure, keep asking if that help releasing some steam…

  • Anonymous

What planet do you come from, none of your comments on VirtualR & Bsimracing makes no sense at all.

  • kahel grahf

Not sure. Next introspection…i’ll let you know if i find out…

  • Anonymous

No I don’t want to know, I just think your comments are weird.

  • kahel grahf

And yet you were the one asking me…
not being weird…seems scary to me…
(it’s obviously a silly comment…i advise you not to take it seriously…and thank btw for sharing your feelings…)

  • Mark

I wouldn’t blame them either if it isn’t in their priorities.

    Still hope it’s fixed though.

  • Anonymous

The FPS hit with more cars is not big. Why dont you try it. You have computer more than powerful enought! On yours spec you should have 60fps with 12 cars all the time!!

I have i5@4500 with 570GTX SLI but I am running 3Dvision and heve no problem with 12 cars!!

  • John Karagiannis

Am I missing somet, cause as far as I know Oculus problem with rendering issue on one eye, is fixed. Anything else came up now?

  • Mark

Yes, the rendering issue is fixed.

However, the latest Oculus Rift SDK is not integrated and so the image quickly drifts. Plus, the 3D is wrong – to me it feels like everything is too close.

  • rauf00

That is v.true, we have actually few promising titles, lot of expectations and few months to final release date. I just hope we can keep cool until AC or PC are finished ;)

  • Deatroy

    How so ?

  • Deatroy

Hopefully, because for now i can run max. 16 cars (including mine) and that wouldnt be enough for MP i guess.
I got a medium PC and highend laptop 2013 so yea :D

  • Sesto Elemento

Ha! “Far less” icy! It’s just a bit better than before, still icy as hell.

  • Anonymous

Correct. The scale is wrong so it feels like you’re driving a reproduction of a Ferrari 458 made for kids or something.

  • Anonymous

I don’t enjoy iRacing for a number of reasons but calling it iceRacing is ridiculous these days. Anything on NTMv5 has fairly believable behavior. Most issues I have with the platform are minor or just not wanting to invest the time and money. The days of crazy physics are largely over.

  • Trevor

Yeah I can’t wait for your Williams BMW FW26 in AC ;) also in rF2. Thank you so much btw, the screen shots look awesome.

  • Michael Hornbuckle

Maybe I’m wrong but I don’t think you are going to be able to touge and here’s why….Trento is listed as having one pit stall on their official page and multi didn’t work on trento in Netkar because of the one pit stall…anybody after the first person to join would flip around in the air…Hopefully I am wrong but you might not want to get your hopes up too high until MP gets here and you are actually on JP with someone else

  • Anonymous

lost most of my interest in AC until MP comes, the hotlapping/testing phase wore off really quickly for me.

  • http://www.mak-corp.com.au/ MAKCorp

Which year is that? The 95/96 ones?

  • Helldriver

    The Update is available now…

  • http://www.mak-corp.com.au/ MAKCorp

Glad you like it, it will be interesting to see it in AC though I myself can’t wait for it to be in rF2 more. With chassis flex and the more simulation based physics, will be a hell of a lot of fun like the IFS3 cars. :)

  • http://www.mak-corp.com.au/ MAKCorp

Hey another Greek! WOOT! We’re finally making an appearance! Nice to see more Greek sim-racer’s around this place! Felt so lonely all these years. :P

  • Anonymous

What is the lagie throttle in AC? The McClarin sounds like it’s having engine trouble. And won’t go to full throttle. Other cars are similar. With the RPM being very jittery as the tach. climbs. Shouldn’t it be smooth? I’m not even sure if the cars are getting full throttle. Is this a known bug?

  • Anonymous

Don’t know why someone voted down? On the new thread for the update. Another answered. “Known bug, You must add 5% deadzone to clutch. Thanks to that person.

  • Andy Thompson

    Too late, post edited.

  • Anonymous

Yeah, like the one you already have previewed. The exact year doesn’t really matter to me.

Group 3A was introduced in 1993 to replace Group A, which dictated that the cars must be 5.0L V8 Australian-produced cars, which later became known as V8 Supercars.

  • Anonymous

It really isn’t ‘icy’ at all. Tire hop is not something that happens on ice ;)

There are other issues over the limit with how easy it is to bring the car back in line, but it sure as heck isn’t ice.

  • John Karagiannis

Greek racing community. Small but strong.
    http://www.hrteam.gr

  • Bill

I just don’t agree to this point, it seems well optimised for todays hardware(unusual for a sim title) given it’s early development state. Could you elaborate?

  • Mark

Update : Two main Oculus Rift problems – drift due to old SDK and sense of scale – fixed in this AC build. :-)

  • Robert Gödicke

Don’t know if you’ll read this, but I gave it a go yesterday on Mugello. 23 AI cars plus me, mixed GT2 / GT3 field. I have to agree that the framerate is a little low at the start, it’s around 40 when starting at the end of the field. But as soon as I’m past the first corner the framerate goes up again. I wouldn’t call 60 fps ideal, but at least it’s driveable.

On a sidenote, I think the performance drop comes from the bigger impact on the CPU, not the GPU. My CPU utilization went to 90%+, so I believe your R9 280X should be more than adequate.

    What’s your CPU? Like I said I’m using a 5 years+ old CPU, it’s an Intel Core i7 920 clocked at 3.6GHz.
