Assetto Corsa – Magione Reality Check

DigiProst has put together a first Assetto Corsa reality check comparison video.

The video shows the Magione circuit in the Assetto Corsa Technology Preview demo that was released yesterday, side by side with real footage to help us judge track accuracy.

Given how the circuit has been laser-scanned, Assetto Corsa’s virtual version is unsurprisingly rather close to the real deal.

Thanks Digipost. No doubt the tract surface is accurate. But, me as a artist and model maker has always wondered why. Graphic artist don’t use actual videos better to build there tract surroundings Are they being lazy and just using trees from a data base? Why are the mountains to low and buildings and tents missing in the game? Well, I know is easy to criticize I should have pursued a carrier as a graphics artist. I think the “art” part is missing in their training.

well I think mainly because of resources. the goal is an accurate version of the track and his main elements. those are there. comparing videos I don’t get because some aspects don’t match like FOV etc.

If it’s a laser scanned build, how come there is an overhead sign at around 1:04 on the virtual track that doesn’t appear in the real life clip?

Lol :)) don’t worry, it doesn’t change anything. Advertising rules!!

Creating trees specifically for one track would be a massive timesuck for no real reason, plus increased video mem usage. Without creating individual trees for each individual tree, it’ll never be perfect. It’s a losing battle not worth fighting. Same with backgrounds – the height of the mountains are irrelevant to the circuit, no one is using the mountains as their braking reference or anything.

Buildings / Tents can be added or changed depending on who is racing there. Plus they can actually be used as reference, unlike a mountain in the background.

Thanks for the “Real Life” overlay, I’d never have figured it out :D
