Assetto Corsa – Lotus 98T Previews

Kunos Simulazioni has released new previews of their Assetto Corsa simulation, showing off the historic Lotus 98T Formula One car on several tracks.

Based on the 97T, the 98T was Lotus weapon of choice for the 1986 Formula One season, the second in Ayrton Senna’s stay with the team.

The 98T was powered by a Renault EF15B V6 turbo engine, featuring pneumatic valve springs. Depending on boost pressure the EF15B was able to provide more than 1,000bhp in qualifying trim.

Assetto Corsa will be powered by a brand new DirectX 11 graphics engine and will come with advanced features such as blur & DOF. The title will offer extensive modding support as well as ten laser-scanned tracks and fully licensed cars as well as AI – A first for a Kunos title.

  • Mazda Mps

Really looking forward to this. DX11 visuals with a proper physics engine. πŸ™‚

  • Valent Levente

That’s the car, which makes the Assetto Corsa a “must have” game! πŸ™‚

  • Wesley Modderkolk

What is it with every game having the same carset? 90% of the cars are in the most of the games. This Lotus 98T is in pCars also, and so is it with other cars too. Do something different for once, Simbin’s RR seems to do something a little different with the BMW Judd for example

    • Josh Keith

Probably based on low-cost availability and certain manufacturers willing to “play ball” with developers.

      • StarFoXySxv550

I wish all manufacturers followed this ethos. The “exclusive this, and expensive that” isn’t really the best situation for consumers or I imagine the manufacturers either.

Example: EA has the Porsche license, but “most wanted” only has a total of three Porsche cars in the game, it’s not like EA need cash more than a dev like kunos, and I doubt the cash Porsche gets really makes a dent on their balance sheets.

Spread the love around so we can experience the cars we love in the titles we love, and they get more potential exposure as a result. Everybody wins. I’m sure some people do buy games based on car lists (or rather specific makes), but I’m sure more buy games based on the overall game itself.

Most car makers aren’t willing to play ball, as Josh Keith said. Lotus is hard up for cash so they were willing to give several makers a list of cars. Ditto Pagani with the Zonda R.

      • pez2k .

The Lotus license in pCARS is actually Team Lotus, it’s not related to the car manufacturer whereas Kunos seem to have acquired the main Lotus Cars license too. As for Pagani, apparently they use videogames as one of their main forms of publicity and promotion, which is why the Zonda R and Huayra are in several games already.

Looks really nice – only car skin need a bit quality ( low res texture, skin doesnt seems to fit exactly to the UVs )
But hey – it WIP πŸ˜‰

  • Kenneth Sehested Pedersen

But still only screenshoots……not a single word about release πŸ™
give us an date where u are aiming for release…. IF all goes well.

    • Juha Mikkola

It has been stated that they aim to get the tech preview (one car, one track technology demo and bug fixing version) out before the end of the year.
Because of some licensing stuff the v1.0 is postponed to end of q1 2013.

I’d love to believe you but it’s December 17th so they only have two weeks… Realistically it makes the most sense to release it before this weekend since most people have long weekends because of Christmas.

      • Kenneth Sehested Pedersen

ups havent seen that message :I

  • Dani .

Too clean, when they add “dirty” shader, particles and textures, this will be very, very good, it need some “real life” vision of the cars (dirty, scrachy…) hope they do it, cause it will be very very good.

    • Professional Operator

You know, when you start the race all cars are clean and shiny in “real life” as well.

And when I’m in the showroom I don’t want to see any dirty scrachy stuff. If Kunos are able to add a layer to makes the car dirty in a dynamic way that’s ok, if not I prefer the clean look.

Heek in the past I’ve heard people complaining because pc sim racing doesn’t look as good as Gran Turismo. Now AC looks even better but some is still not happy LOL

      • Dani .

You donΒ΄t understand me… aside of the dynamic dirty, the car feels of plastic, irreal cause lack of imperfections. Thats the point. (and all assetto screns looks a bit washed, hope the game itself isnt)

      • Professional Operator

Definitely I’m not sure what do you mean.

One thing I’m sure, this looks good enough and doing better than that is actually very very difficoult.

Assetto Corsa looks light years better than iracing and rFactor2. So I’m not interested Kunos focus all their effort on tiny details.

      • Dani .

I’m not saying it looks bad!! i’m not a car modder but on that car if you add some imperfections would be just perfect… that’s what i mean with too clean.

I’m not going to enter iracing/rfactor/pcars argue. (Personally Assetto is the sim i follow most)

  • Markus Ott

Sadly the textures look pretty low res with a huge amount of AA. The lightning looks too pale, only 013.png seems to have saturated and fitting colors. But the model itself is nice.
I still hope a sim will bring an early 90s F1 (with active suspension?) and at best with a V12.

    1000HP! faints

  • Ar Kh

seems the guys at KS do know how to handle lights, effects and textures to make it look sooo good, even better than PCARS in some parts imo. with physics/fbb like NKP quality – me buy πŸ˜€

Rear wheels are too big in diameter but looks awesome apart from that. Looking forward to it.

  • SlowOnlinePilot

    beautiful graphics!

  • Lasse Jakobi Ougaard

You know you’ve got a car that means business, when 2.5 bar boost is only halfway up the manometer! πŸ™‚

  • ratsitsix

The developers of iRacing, pCars, Codemasters and Electronic Art etc etc must all be really trembling in their shoes knowing that the release of Assetto Corsa will make there products obsolete for sure !

One thing is clear and that is that Assetto Corsa is definitely a game changer !
