Assetto Corsa – Imola Gameplay Video

Ahead of tomorrow’s start of the GamesCom expo, Kunos Simulazioni has released a new gameplay video of their Assetto Corsa title.

The short video shows Kunos’ physics guy racing against the AI in a KTM X-Bow race at Imola. Lots of more gameplay footage of Assetto Corsa will surface in the next few days as visitors of the GamesCom are invited to try the simulation at the Acer booth B50 in hall 10.1.

Assetto Corsa will be powered by a brand new DirectX 11 graphics engine and will come with advanced features such as blur & DOF. The title will offer extensive modding support as well as ten laser-scanned tracks and fully licensed cars as well as AI – A first for a Kunos title.

    amazing.

  • Ricardo Moreira

looking awesome! can’t wait to try it…

  • Big Ron

Looks nice. Hopefully some better judgable videos will appear.

Simply stunning. With its modding features, is this all the sim we’ll ever need?

  • eifionevans

I’m fullscreening the video and jiggling my wheel but nothing’s happening

  • Anonymous

Looking mighty fine! I really want to hear a direct audio feed too because the visuals are so appealing.
Oh bugger, it’s GT5 all over again lol! Joke.

  • Anonymous

When it moves, its even better looking then expected.

I think I have wet my pants… yep affirmative. Seriously though this looks like we might get the best AI ever in a Sim Racing game, I’m excited. I love online racing but sometimes it’s just awfully quiet online and I want to practice consistency with others on track giving me a challenge. The looks are just something we would expect out of a game that concentrates purely on graphics (something like Call of Duty, or other games that are just purely for good looks and not for gameplay) which says a lot about a game that seems like it will have some of the most advanced physics on the market. Kunos, you’ll get my money whenever my B-Day comes around! (January)

  • tjc

That does indeed look very good… looking forward to this one. :)

  • Anonymous

Clearly looks amazing, but clearly looks bad in triple screens because it doesn’t have proper multi-monitor support… just look at thw warping at the sides as he overtakes the other car.

  • Anonymous

    This looks terrible !!

just kidding looks really nice I like the way the car in-front steps out in a really subtle way as it corners at 3 seconds.

    – I’m excited to see what its like with faster cars as these Xbow cars are to slow for my taste , i think the Xbow will be a good car for lesser skilled drivers to race with higher skilled drivers on-line with though. A good all rounder for casual races.

    – I like that the graphics are clean and functional ( i hope end end result is like Cars but less shiny and more toned down so a mix between i racing and pcars)

    - I think playing the game with an Italian accent might be mandatory.

    – To me at this piont in time AC looks like its going to be the sim of the year delivering on physics graphics and just polish/detail.

  • yorch sincla

Love the lighning and the “weight sensation” (excuse my terrible english).

    Lag on the wheel……

  • Big Ron

Your comment about the AI is pretty funny. How can you judge the AI from two long straights and two turns? All what I see is the the opponent kicking him off the track while he tried to turn.

  • wakeup suckers

No AI here. He was playing against another guy, that was in the same location, behind him.

You can hear him saying “no, no, no” when he see the KTM coming behind,
and laughing when the one you see in the video go out of the track.

Then this one call that guy “killer” because of the crash.

I’m italian, I understand what they said.

  • http://twitter.com/Pascalwb Pascal

Ok, in video it looks better than on pictures :D, I like this graphics, no blur or dof or somothing. Really nice, Graphics in pCARS is flickering for me, like i don’t know how to describe it. But this, this looks brillian.t

  • http://twitter.com/Pascalwb Pascal

COD don’t have good graphics at all :D, but this this has.

  • Marco Hooghuis

iRacing should be VERY worried :D
This looks awesome and coming from Kunos it will undoubtedly have great physics and ffb.

  • mirza mirza

If u saw their set up at the GamesCom expo u would know there is no another guy behind LOL ….another gamer hehe funny.
On the video u can see their only other rig to the right of them.

  • http://twitter.com/Polyphonie Mike

    I agree completely.

  • wakeup suckers

He’s playing against another guy who is sitting somewhere behind them. If not, he’s crazy, because when he said Killer he wasn’t talking with the two guys near him. Not AI in my opinion. But I’ll ask them in their youtube channel and we’ll see.

  • mirza mirza

Mean I know the guy driving (Aris) no doubt m8 its AI no one behind heh, and if any one is a killer its their AI that is still in the making…..

  • http://twitter.com/Polyphonie Mike

The warping was probably caused by optical distortion from the camera’s lens. It’s almost impossible to capture this type of setup unless you take into account the radial distortion of the lens and capture it from the optimum distance/POV (on a tripod or a stand).

  • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

I thnk iRacing will be fine. The way they have their online gaming set up, is not something that you can find an equivalent to anywhere right now. A lot of people will happily stick to iRacing because of that imo.

  • Ricoo

Agreed. This won’t have iRating nor Safety rating so I don’t think it will be a threat for iRacing.

  • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

Yeah, plus this thing where you race against people your own skill level. I think that is a very cool feature of iRacing.

  • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

…..because of the video. This tends to happen when taking video of real life + video screen. If not then all sims would have input lag because someone always points it out :)

  • Ricoo

Indeed it’s a very nice feature.

  • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

Video looks great. Nice and smooth. I hope the AI cars don’t have the ‘tank cars’ effect where when you collide with them or they collide with you (not heavily) it’s always only you that spins off and the AI always continue on.

  • Anonymous

it’s actually been confirmed by Kunos that it’s not a high priority to add multi monitor support for launch, hence why i looked for it in this video, and it’s definitely warping. Shame for all us triple owners…

  • wakeup suckers

Mmhh… probably you’re right and he’s joking, calling killer the AI. I apologize. Next time I’ll watch the video more times before leaving a comment, eheheh :).
In Pcars you can modify different parameters of the AI, there is a dedicated menu for that.

  • http://twitter.com/Dillyracer Dylan H.

He isn’t, this is on their FB page.

    All
preparations set and done, Aris is “testing” the KTM at Imola against
the AI. Stefano “Kunos” is cheering for his “creatures” (Ai) while in
the end Aris can’t avoid the incident and shouts “assassin” at the Ai
    creator!”

  • Anonymous

“Our physics modeler VS AI” on the description.
    Not so much difficult uh?
The “assassino” who said “no, no, no”, then laugh and said “vai creatura, creatura vai!” is Stefano Casillo, and he is speaking about his creature: the AI.

  • Chris Allen

Totally agree. In fact I would prefer it be a little tilted in our favor if anything, where if you bumped them hard enough they have their own accident or have a hard time correcting and possibly wreck themselves. On another note I can’t wait to see the interviews and more videos coming in the following weeks!

  • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

Yeah. After this teaser video it’s only made me want to see more, and with proper sound if they have it ready. And how cool it would be if when he pulled alongside that other XBow, that you saw the AI driver glance over :)

  • Noel Hibbard

This is not true. The camera isn’t the cause of the lag. It seams that everytime someone points out lag in a game (usually pCARS) someone else says it is because of the camera which is totally false.

  • Noel Hibbard

For example here is a video demonstrating vsync lag and you can clearly see the lag in the video and once vsync is turned off you can clearly see that the lag goes away.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjHqXKqeDgE&sns=em

  • Noel Hibbard

Judging by how smooth and tear free the video is I would assume vsync is on which would cause lag.

  • Chris Allen

Haha I was actually looking for that first time I watched the video lol.

  • http://www.facebook.com/steve30x Steve Farrell

Looks like something new from fanatec maybe https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8444/7784664784_b09c173b87_o.jpg

  • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

Yes you’re quite right. I wasn’t blaming the camera, or at least I didn’t mean to. I didn’t explain myself very well.

In that video though when he turns vsynce off and runs at 60fps, I still do see lag, though it is very very slight. At 120fps its pretty much non existent.

  • Anonymous

yea, well was just thinking about an example, not the best idea at 4 in the night I guess heh. And yea I just meant that this game has graphics on par or better than games specifically made for graphics :)

  • Anonymous

Well, I can see one thing, that AI isn’t some dull one that doesn’t try to overtake. It’s fighting back against a guy that knows the game off the back of his hand. Something has to be right with the AI or otherwise it would just keep back not knowing what to do.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Markus-Ott/100000878526131 Markus Ott

Now this really impresses me. The smoothness of the driving and the natural looking car movement of the car in front is even superior to pCARS at the moment and maybe even better than iRacing.
Someone please make a video at Gamescom of the P4/5 Competizione in cockpit view :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Justin-Schmidt/100001406158677 Justin Schmidt

really nice can’t wait for release. too bad i dont have free gamescom tickets this year like in previous years.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Justin-Schmidt/100001406158677 Justin Schmidt

the rig under there is the one seen in the video

  • Eric Zehnder

That’s a pretty good description, actually. There are flicker issues as they introduce new features, to be sure. It’ll be fixed, I’m sure.

I like the graphics in Assetto Corsa as they seem to be a very solid DX11 offering. I would like to see less full-on sun, though, as the glare is pretty high on these videos of a monitor. Are there any videos not taken off a monitor?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Felix-Schmidberger/1487648182 Felix Schmidberger

Looks very good but there are some things that look strange to me: 1. the huge tire marks that the car in front leaves at corner entry and especially on corner exit and 2) am I wrong or are the mirrors just black?

  • steve farrell

My bad lol. It looks different becaiuse of that bit on the bottom where it says Fanatec

  • Alejandro Gorgal

Dude, what’s up with the downvoting on this site? This is a perfectly good comment. I miss the old Disquss..

  • http://www.facebook.com/philterino Phil Johnston

just looks like he has beziel correction off in his video settings

  • Anonymous

go check RD, it’s a fact that this game does not have triple support yet. I was shocked too, which is why i think it’s worth passing the message on to others.
