ARCA Sim Racing – First Silverado Truck Video

The SimFactory has released a first preview video of the new Chevrolet Silverado truck for their ARCA Sim Racing simulation.

While simultaneously working on an all-new second version of ARCA Sim Racing, the proven title will be enriched by two new cars, one of which is the Silverrado.

Below is a first video of the car in action, the team is making good progress on the project as outline in the development update below:

- Cheverolet Truck is on track in game and currently under going closed beta testing
- Spek guages are almost completed and will be a part of the truck package when delivered
- Template is 99% ready and should be released in very near future
- Car Viewer will be released in tandom with the template
- Physics work continues daily for the trucks, completed is Talladega, Kansas and Chicagoland
- A few screenshots and a small video of some testing will be posted soon for those interested
- This is a free addon to be offered to current owners of ASR and will only contain the Chevrolet Silverado truck
- Soon after the truck is joined to ASR, our NW and Cup vehicles will be close behind.

Um, how can anyone launch a new truck racing series and not be compared to iRacing. Where’s the point of difference here? There’s already a very strong community racing the trucks in iRacing. Probably the strongest series on the sim.

Yeah, had this come out before iRacing’s new tire model I could see aome people being interested, but at this point everything looks like an also-ran. Worse graphics, likely worse physics (does ASR have access to the internals of a real car for physics modeling?), and a smaller user base. I guess it’s cheaper…

Actually TSF does have access to real team physics which I’m not sure iRacing does. IMO, ASR feels a lot better then iRacing, even with the new tire model. I like both, but I honestly prefer ASR, especially when it comes to oval racing. ASR is certainly more niche than iRacing is but they are also developing ASR2 currently which of course will use the ISI game engine and physics-tire deformation and the works. Cheaper, yes, but worth every penny. I can’t say the same for iRacing.

Ah, didn’t realize they had team data access. IRacing does as well, and one of the lead physics developers is himself a former NASCAR engineer.

I like it, I guess my only issue with it is simple. Audio sounds similar to the NR2k3 CTS09 Mod, it doesn’t look all that much better graphically(part of that is 480p vid quality though). I have been wanting this game though, it seems like pretty solid quality. I’m not a pretty graphics guy, and I’m fairly certain the engine the use is similar or the same as rFactor(g-motor I believe?). Looks like good work gents, keep it up!

Phillip, you are correct, we are partnered with ISI for our Stock Car simulation and the current version is in the G-Motor platform. Our second release will be on the new ISI software platform, but until then we continue work on the original and adding content. All audio in our sim was sampled directly by us at various tracks and should be helped in the next release a bit with the newer capabilities of ISI’s latest package. The truck used was laser scanned from an actual race ready vehicle & tech certified for this past season. The video does not show a good representation and I will get some screens and renders out soon to help see the level of detail better.

Bakkster, the data used in both our Arca car and Truck is all derived with the help of actual team engineers of several shops, and many of the manufacturers as well such as Hoosier.  A list of many involved in all of our development can be found here:  http://tinyurl.com/7esx9td

That sounds pretty dang nice for sure! If I were to purchase the current version, would I need to purchase it again once the second release comes out? I didn’t think of the detail of the actual truck, that’s one thing NR2k3 can’t do very well I know that’s for sure. At the very least I know I’m saving my pennies to buy the game… I want to tackle Salem, and from what I hear the ARCA Sim Racing version is one of the best :). Thank you for your response and hard work Mr Zimmerman!

Philip, thank you for the kind words. When the second release is done, I think our intent is to offer a brief migration period for folks who already own the original one. This period will be incremented slightly for those who purchase the first version close to the date of the release of the second as well. So there really is no fear in joining the community of ARCA SIm Racing at any point, in fact, until Jan 15th, you can get the sim and receive a $15 rebate, or if you have someone you can split the cost, you can buy one copy and get a second copy free! :)
And Salem is a beast of a track to drive :)

ARCA despite of what people say a is very good game.
I only had 3 league races in it because I am a European ( [saracasm]and as you folks know Europeans doesn’t like ovals [/saracasm] ), but those races were among the greatest ones I’ve ever had with battles all the way to the finish line.
Too bad not more people would play ARCA, but I hope that once they release ARCA2, the oval community will see it and run it!

    ARCA is indeed very good.

What has held it back, I think, is: -

    1. Quite a high entry price for a four year old title. In my view they should be almost giving it away to build up the evidently low user base, ready for the next version. The current $15 rebate is a step in the right direction though.

    2. A very multiplayer focused game, with under-developed AI that should be better than it is. Not everyone wants to be an online racer and the offline hobby is a thing all of its own. A big missed opportunity to create a genuine NR2K3 successor.

That said, the physics are as good, if not better, than anything out there and, as this thread demonstrates, they are still packing more into the game, which is impressive given its longevity.

Certainly worth a try. It would be fantastic if more were to try it. iRacing devotees might be very surprised, shocked even :-)
