A Lap Of Silverstone in TMG’s Simulator

Toyota Motorsport GmbH has released a cool new video of their high-tech simulator, showing a lap around Silverstone.

Originally built for Toyota’s Formula One programme, the simulator uses a former Toyota F1 monocoque, the software has long changed though as Toyota is now racing with the TS030 Hybrid LMP1 in the World Endurance Championship.

The series’ fourth round at Silverstone is up next weekend and we now get to check out the virtual version of the British track that drivers Alex Wurz, Nicolas Lapierre and Kazuki Nakajima are using to prepare for the six-hour event.

I think you mean Kazuki Nakajima. Kazunori appears to be some sort of doctor…

This looks wayyyy too easy to handle. I would even say it’s arcadish.

I wonder, how do you rate handling not even seeing what the driver is doing with the wheel and pedals, you dont even see ingame steering wheel.

This was a small allusion to people yelling “LOOKS ARCADE, NOT BUYING THIS” when looking at an upcoming sim where the guy playing isn’t spinning at every corner.

    ok ;] cheers!

You are going to get pooned by down votes for a comment like this !

Looks easy doesn’t mean it was easy. Maybe the right phrase is “The driver is so good it looks very easy” ;)

The view you got from the drivers seat is almost zero. Also the view through the windshield itself is giving me instant headaches.

wasn’t it obvious that he was joking.

are you another one thats been brainwashed by rfactor.

  • Alejandro Gorgal

Yeah, these prototype cars are known for having terrible visibility, the drivers must have huge balls to drive them as fast as they do.

You are just slow and need the game to be easy because you lack skills.

  • http://display.vracing.pl Gniewko Ostrowski

yeah, silly me, sry 4 this.

Fricken you knew someone would have to say Arcade LOL

I don’t exactly know what you mean, but I think last year there was article here about fellow sim racer who is very lucky to try one of real F1 team simulator (redbull or toyota I forgot) and from his experience it was way far from easy, with the brake pedal as hard as a rock, it also demanded his full concentration for the car not to spin. Yet the team test driver makes it look easy.
edit: IIf I’m correct, other than ferrarI, real f1 teams use rfactor pro for the base of their sims.

Thats not really what the LMP racer`s view is:

Just imagine …Even its the FOV or just completely wrong modelled.
I know its a camera view but you find way more pics wich shows a way different windscreen size.

  • http://www.facebook.com/wesley.modderkolk Wesley Modderkolk

Good to know that you know the right FOV out of no information at all and Toyota, the maker of the vehicle does not.

No seriously, compared to the vid the drivers seat is much, much further back, hence the windscreen looks smaller.

I knew they had bad visibility, but that it is actually this bad shocks me

  • Remco Hitman

You don’t think it looks terrible? Because it does. It’s almost hard to believe how badly Toyota have set up their simulator but this video is enough proof. Really bad job!

No I think it looks realistic, just like what is required from a Simulator. The windscreen size isnt wrong, it just looks different that far from the screen. I have no doubt it is 100% right, the simulator is meant for testing new parts and driver training, and I am damn sure you train a driver better with the correct FOV and windscreen size
